TAKEN IN is a handmade feature film about a man who must spend a weekend alone with his estranged teenage daughter at a roadside resort. It is here that Simon and Brooklyn must confront the issues that have driven them apart, and ultimately choose how they will move forward...together or alone.

TAKEN IN was written and directed by personal filmmaker, Chris White. It was made entirely with cash and in-kind contributions from friends and family. The story (co-written with his wife Emily), was inspired by Chris’ theatre work with students at a therapeutic boarding school. The film is dedicated to his own teenage daughter, Gibson.

TAKEN IN was filmed at South of the Border, Dillon SC USA in the Spring of 2011.

First Visualization of TAKEN IN.

This snapshot—taken in Athens GA, in the late summer of 2009—was used as an early "visualization" of the TAKEN IN story.

Something about the chaotic nature of the graffiti (discovered on the inside of a men's restroom door at The Grill) made me think of Brooklyn's life...and her relationship with her father.

(The colors from this image inspired the color scheme of this website.)

Touring like a rock band. With a film.

Not sure if this idea is efficient, but it feels like the right thing to do.

I'm taking the film anywhere that will have me July 15 - August 31, 2011. Screening it for friends and other interested parties. Watching the story with people known and never met. Listening to their reactions, talking with them after...asking for their support of future endeavors.

I've made TAKEN IN to share with friends who have shared with me. Person-to-person filmmaking. Driving around, visiting their homes seems like the natural next-step.
